What is karma?
Karma is an action or thought, good or bad, that we consciously and deliberately trigger that can affect the environment, have an impact on ours or others’ lives in a positive or negative way, and for which we get rewarded or condemned in this life or the next.
Are we born with karma?
Every human being is born to improve their karma. Each and every individual born comes with a package. This package consists of chapters they would live in their lives. Each chapter has paragraphs, and each paragraph has some specific information about their life’s what, when, where, and how.
How does karma work?
Every day you are given an opportunity to better your life. You do something that will pay yourself forward. Every thought and action is governed by the extent to which your will is influenced. The sum total of all your wills and actions in the past of your current life will reflect your immediate future. If they are good actions, all’s good! But bad karma will reflect back; it’s a bit like pissing in the wind.
How can we control our karma?
It all boils down to how we think and act in circumstances that are beyond our control. For example, you are walking on the footpath, and you come across a beggar who asks you for some alms. The very fact that you have both crossed roads is meaningful. It is a test to your karma. If you ignore him and walk off, you are missing out on a golden opportunity.
We all want to reap the benefits of a good karma. We sometimes think about doing good deeds like giving to the Salvation Army, a cancer society and so on. But when it comes to this fellow right in front of you, asking for some change, you have second thoughts. If we give some change, it won’t make much difference to us but would mean a lot to that beggar. He is living his karma. By giving you would evoke happy and beneficial karmic vibes to both parties.
That was a paragraph in your life story; you wanted it to be a good paragraph, not a sad one. Otherwise, it would rewrite itself as a ‘to complete’ paragraph in a future chapter of your life.
It’s like an opportunity you missed to pay a debt to that particular soul. The paragraph’s content would depend on the action you took with the beggar. This is like rewriting your future.
But the opportunity might never show up again because there isn’t much space in your current life’s book and this would need to be rewritten in a new book, a new life book for your next life. You don’t want that, you don’t want to be in karmic debt, do you?
Good karma
I came across a beggar once. He was sitting on the side of the footpath close to a busy crossing. I looked at him and asked: “Are you hungry? Have you had anything to eat today?” to which he replied, “Yes sir, I am fine.”
I said, ‘I insist, here’s $10, go get yourself something to eat or drink.”
To which he replied: “No thank you sir, its very kind of you but I am fine. I like sitting here watching people all day long. I enjoy it. I don’t have a family, but I am not poor, and I am not begging. You are a good soul sir may God bless you!”
In a thousand years I would not have guessed that this man was a well to do person. He was there because he liked sitting there and watching passers-by.
Thought karma
Thinking of anyone in a good or bad manner is also karma in action,
If we think good of a person, we are sending good vibes to the person, and it would act positively for you. When you send good thoughts, you attract good thoughts tenfold.
But when you think bad and want to harm someone you have already committed that harm in your mind because you visualise what you are going to do to that person or thing in, perhaps, more details than you would if you would actually be doing it for real. It is actually considered as a done act and it’s not good for your karma.
However, if we regret having had those weird thoughts and truthfully and sincerely regret, that karma can be erased.
How do karma work?
Every thought and impression, positive or negative, would record and rewrite itself, and accordingly change your future.
The more we let ourselves go with the flow of karma, the more we rewrite our future for the better.
At a certain point in life, depending on your ‘good intention’, your book of karma would continually erase and rewrite itself until it upgrades your chapters and gives you opportunities to better your life.
What are thoughts and where do they come from?
Thoughts and inspiration will come from the universe, as all and every thought does. You would feel like getting information from a higher source.
Every thought coming from the ether, or the universe, comes in waves of different bandwidths.
Everyone is attuned to a wavelength which is unique to them.
Depending on your karma, you will start receiving thoughts patterns that would start flowing to your mind.
It’s like a radio station. FM or AM. If you tune onto an FM radio station you would be hearing pop songs and entertainment topics and if you tune onto an AM radio station, you would be hearing about news and current affairs.
If you get an information from an AM radio and try to engage into a conversation about it with a person who is always listening to an FM radio station, you won’t get anywhere.
That person won’t be interested as they are attuned to music and stuff and not to worldly news and current affairs.
Everyone is attuned to a certain wavelength. Until and unless they are introduced to FM, they won’t know what it is, or represents.
Universal Bandwidth
In the world, there are billions of people who are each attuned to a certain universal bandwidth. There are trillions of wavelengths and each one broadcasts its unique content to a unique person. This is why everyone has their own mind and way of thinking.
Some people, thanks to their good karma in the course of their various previous incarnations, get attuned to a particular bandwidth that broadcast them inspirational and divine wisdom. They then in turn transmit the information to everyone who is willing to listen.
Those who listen are willing to change their own thought patterns and get attuned to that knowledge. It is possible but there are some rigorous actions that are to be taken and practiced.
Very few people are attuned to this divine bandwidth, that’s why enlightened souls are limited on Earth today. We wish everyone could be attuned to this bandwidth.
Are we born attuned to a certain bandwidth?
People would live their entire lives attuned to a certain bandwidth with different sub stations. Everyone born in such families would continue with the same bandwidth.
To be born in a certain environment, certain parents, certain geographical limitation has its reason and purpose. We have to strive to be the best in that society and work our way up spiritually.
Once we are born from parents with a certain bandwidth, we stay tuned to it until we are inspired through good karma and automatically improve and switch bandwidths.
What about accidents and unpredicted events beyond our control?
Every day of our lives, we see people die, imprisoned, involved in accidents and are maimed or disabled. They get insurance and have others look after them.
All of that is the result of an individual act of negligence such as speeding, wrong timing or human misjudgement. Despite themselves those responsible never wished any bad to happen to the victims as a result of their behaviour and negligence. It was all bound to happen, it was part of their chapters in their books of karma.
However, we cannot let these circumstances become the focus of our lives as life goes on and we have to reach life’s destination.
We should not cry over spilled milk and keep going with a positive and hopeful outlook towards what is the ultimate goal, Enlightenment.
That’s the whole purpose of life and we should never lose our fucus.
It’s like you are travelling at a hundred miles an hour on a straight road, and you have hardy time to admire the scenery on either side at any moment. You can’t take any risk and all you have to do is to look ahead and concentrate on your wheel.
The same with life, don’t get distracted, just do what needs to be done.
For this to happen, just like the story above, you need to turn off the radio, ignore the temptation of looking on the side of the road or enjoy the view.
Life is short, we are given a certain amount of time to reach a destination. We can’t travel for ever. We might stop at a junction and choose to go left, or right. If we don’t know, we could be taking the wrong direction but if you have a map, we will certainly reach our destination no matter how long it takes.
Life is no different, you need to have an open mind and do as much good as possible.
What should I do to minimize my bad karma?
If someone asks for help, no matter what you are doing, just help and leave everything else, as this could be an opportunity for you to redeem some of your bad karma.
Everything in one’s life happen for a reason. There is no such thing as coincidence. Everything is meant to be. The law of causation should take its course.
Has it ever happened to you that no matter what you do to change a certain circumstance, or flow of events, you always end up back to square one?
This is because there are some elements within the course of your actions that require a change. That change would bring you certain results that would then positively affect others and your own future.
Finally, it all boils down to Mahatma Gandhi’s dictum: ‘Be good, think good and do good!’ and every day of your life you will be closer and closer to self-realization, or become enlightened.
